Ventilation is designed into the cabinetry, or it is not there

A fully integrated cooling unit takes air in low and discharges it high through channels formed by the surrounding carcase and the plinth. When a kitchen has been refitted, a plinth replaced, or a decorative panel added flush where a gap used to be, that path narrows and the appliance starts losing the argument on the hottest week of the year.

The tell is seasonal. A cabinet that was fine all winter and cannot hold in July is describing its condenser, not its compressor, and on Gaggenau the condenser is usually being starved rather than being dirty.

Wine cabinets, and the glass door

The wine units bring their own set. A glass door in a temperate room is a condensation problem waiting for an excuse, which is why there is a heater in the frame; when that heater fails the door mists and the owner reasonably assumes the cooling has gone wrong. Humidity control and charcoal filtration add two more things that are meant to be maintained rather than repaired, and a filter left in for years changes how the cabinet smells long before it changes how it runs.

• Each zone logged against its set point and against the other, over a full run
• Door frame heater and seal contact along the hinge edge
• Charcoal filter age and the humidity reservoir where fitted
• Rack loading, because an empty cabinet and a full one sound and behave differently
• Plinth and upper vent clearance in the surrounding joinery

Parts come through the BSH route

Gaggenau shares its parts channel with the rest of the group, which is generally good news for availability and less good news for lead time on the pieces unique to the range. Trim, handles and hinge components specific to a Gaggenau front are the slow ones. Where a fault can be confirmed on the first visit, the part is ordered from the house so there is one wait rather than two.
