Freezer Repair

Column freezers and freezer drawers that frost over, run warm, or alarm overnight and then settle. Defrost heaters and thermistors, blocked drains, gaskets, fan motors and drawer-rail alignment on built-in and undercounter units.

A refrigerated drawer pulled fully out of a cabinet run, stacked with lidded food containers

Told to us on the phone

The complaints, as they arrive

  • Cubes fused into a single block in the bin
  • Frost creeping around the drawer rails
  • A temperature alarm that clears and then returns after dark
  • A warm pocket at the top of a column freezer

On the visit

The readings taken

  1. Where the frost forms, which narrows the fault before a panel comes off
  2. Defrost heater draw and thermistor resistance, cold and at temperature
  3. Drain path from the trough to the pan, including any heater loop
  4. Drawer rail alignment and closure on undercounter units
  5. Alarm history where the cabinet keeps one, matched against what the readings show

Cost

Why there is no price list here

A repair figure quoted before the fault is known is a guess with a dollar sign on it. The one number fixed in advance is the $95 service call — the visit and the full diagnosis — and it comes off the repair once you approve it.

  • Which system the fault is in — control, airflow, defrost or sealed system
  • Whether the part is current stock or has to be sourced against an older model
  • How the cabinet is installed, and whether panelling has to come off to reach it
  • Whether one visit confirms the diagnosis or the fault only appears on a long run

Deep February cold and the garage unit gave up completely. He explained that the ambient had dropped below what the thermostat could handle and fitted the low temperature kit. Two cold snaps since, no trouble.

Undercounter unit in the island ran warm and never once alarmed. Thermistor had drifted. He fitted a new one and calibrated against a proper probe.

Frost was creeping around the drawer rails and the drawer had stopped gliding. He stripped the rails, found a heater wire off its clip, and reseated it. He also flagged the gasket corner letting humid air in.
