Gas Burner Won't Ignite
A clicking burner that won't light is usually a simple fix. Follow these steps.
Safety Note
If you smell gas strongly:
- Turn off burner
- Ventilate area
- Don't create sparks
- Call gas company if smell persists
- Remove burner cap
- Dry igniter electrode
- Wait 24 hours if very wet
- Try lighting again
- Remove burner cap
- Clear ports with toothpick
- Never use metal (damages ports)
- Clean cap thoroughly
- Remove cap
- Check for debris underneath
- Reseat carefully
- Ensure flat and centered
- Locate igniter electrode (small ceramic piece)
- Clean with soft brush
- Remove debris carefully
- Don't damage electrode
- Turn burner knob to light position
- Use long match or lighter
- If lights manually, ignition system issue
- If won't light manually, gas supply issue
- Multiple burners affected
- Gas supply concerns
- Won't light manually
- Unusual flame color
- Continuous clicking
